The reason why I think Sombra's a good villain.

King Sombra - Vector by VaderPL
There are questions that I get why I was so obsessed with King Sombra? Most people disliked the character mostly because he was like a bad OC, doesn't have any lines, screen time, back story, development, lack of motives, and was just a cliché villain. I do respect people opinions, so this is not a blog that I bash out on the people who think he is a lame villain. Just as long as I'm not judged by the fact that I think he is a good villain, I will tolerate your opinion. ^^

I will tell you though what I think of Sombra, when the episode first came out. Before the episode came out, I was so hyped that the episode will be full of action and adventure. I used to not care for spoilers so I known who Sombra is before I seen the episode itself. I expect Sombra to be one of those kick ass villains who can beat the living hell out of the ponies. Though I know its a kid show, not a Saturday cartoon show. Hehehe. xD I also thought he was going to be the husband of Queen Chrysalis, but that was only my first thought. Lol! When I first saw the leaked scene, I started to love Sombra's design and he looks like he was going to be the most evil villain in the show yet. When the episode came out and after I saw it, my thoughts on Sombra changed completely. Yes I did at first think Sombra didn't do enough and was send away to quickly, which can be true. His second return was far to quick and he was so close in regaining his true power. I was expecting more for Sombra but that was my first thought on Sombra when I first saw the episode and I understand why everyone think he is a lame ass villain.

When time fly by, I decided to watch the episode again and I looked very deeply into the episode this time. I finally get why Sombra didn't get enough screen time because the story mostly centers around Twilight passing her test and he was to scary for little girls. Its also why he doesn't really got that much development because the episode wasn't about him. He is very different then the past villains. He never explains his true plans, never explains why he wanted the empire, and he is mostly silent throughout the episode. Yes he talks, but he doesn't say that much, because he wasn't a talkative villain like Chrysalis and Discord was. You can't really reason with this guy, he is just plain evil. My first thought of him was right, he is the most evilest antagonist in the show thus far. Does he look like a bad OC? Some people think he does, but I think he has a pretty cool design. He seems to be very corrupted with dark magic and the green eyes that glowed and purple mist coming from the corner of his eyes, is his own magic on active. This guy is also very feared by many ponie's. He enslaved all the Crystal Ponies during that rule and it makes me think that he also used to torture them, which is why I think the Crystal Ponie's are so scared of him. Every time he was mentioned, the Crystal Pony was so scared and was shaking badly. Did he do stuff while waiting for Cadance to lose her balance to keep the shield up, yes he did some stuff. He is corrupting a few things in there, like turning everything into dark crystal. Its perfectly implied that it might be Sombra's magic recovering. That's why he wanted that Crystal Heart, so he can regain his full power and take over the Crystal Empire once again, so he is a power hungry tyrant. He is also a very patient villain and so he is smart enough to sit and wait until Cadance lose her power, while he takes his time for his magic to recover, including his horn that chopped off.  Once she is weak, he will soon attack, so its mostly like a time episode for the mane six. If Cadance lose her power, game over. The crystal empire will no longer be safe and the evil Sombra is back.

Like some other people, I think Sombra was a deep dark menacing presence who is out there, coming for you, and you are scared, even if he is not really there. That's one of the high notes why I think Sombra works because he brings fear to pony's when he really isn't there. Like the GuyWithNoNickname said before me, his dark crystals could be him, bringing warning to the ponies that he will come back and take over his kingdom again. And here comes the greatest reason why I think Sombra is a great villain. He is very clever. So clever, that he sets up traps for his enemies if they ever get in the castle. The nightmare door is a great example of why Sombra is clever.

Like I said in my Crystal Empire review, the door was the most darkest moment in the entire show thus far. Imagine that you walked down the stairs and you come upon the door. You open it and you walked in. You get confused as to where the hell you are, until something happens that you never wanted to happen to you. You cannot escape this fear and if you were alone, nothing will be able to wake you up from the vision. If Spike hasn't came with Twilight, she would of been stuck there, trapped by the spell of the fear door for all of her life. You know how horrible that will be if you live out your worst fear? Its a truly scary thing to imagine. I read a fanfic once about Luna being trapped by the spell of the nightmare door, with her true fear being all alone in the world and no one who can comfort her. It was a truly sad story and you should read it. It explains clearly why the scene from the Crystal Empire is so powerful, it almost made me cry. Seriously it really does. That is what made me realized that Sombra was a very, very good villain because of his clever traps and his evil presence, even if I hate what he did in the episode. xD Such an intelligent villain that you will love to hate.

Now I would admit, some of the things bronies say about him just makes me crack up. Like they paired him up with stairs because he sets up many traps with long stairs. He was also referred to as Lord Donut Steel by bronies and I was fall off my chair laughing. xDD Get it because he looks like a bad OC?!! The few lines that he has were mostly crystals and people think that he mostly says that all the time. Maybe he is on Crystal Meth. Lol!! Even if he is a good villain in my eyes, he is also so fun to make fun of as well. He was even more respected in the tumblir blog called Ask King Sombra, done by the talented artist and story teller, Wiggles. In the tumblir, it was set up right after Sombra was exploded and only his horn survived the explosion. There is a nebulous dream world that is inside his horn, in which Sombra controls. There is two sides of Sombra. One is the more comic relief and the focus of the blog. The other is his darker form, which corrupted Sombra and took over him, which is why he acted as he did in the episode. Though its fan made, so its not truly a canon story. xD However the blog is very entertaining and fun and I suggest you go check it out right now. And like RaybanDash said, if you don't have a tumblir, MAKE ONE!!!!

Sombra's death scene is pretty much a nice sent off for an evil villain. He is the first villain so far in the show to be completely killed off. I don't think the show's creators wants him reformed so they killed him off, which I think was a good idea. We already got Trixie, Discord, Sunset Shimmer, and Luna. So having another major villain redemption will be pointless in my opinion, however this is a kids show after all so I don't know what they will do. But i'm so glad they killed him off mostly because I want him to stay evil and I'm so happy that he died evil as well. xD

Will I want King Sombra to return. Well since he is my favorite villain in the series, I honestly don't care. ^^ However it will be more interesting if he returns in a flashback because if they get into more depth as to why he took over the Empire and became evil, will be a fun thing to watch. An upcoming fanmade animation with Sombra and Celestia fighting is what I will loved to see in a show itself as well, a scene where Celestia actually fights the villain. In the present day, because Sombra was killed in the Crystal Heart's blast (if you seen my last journal, you understand), he might not ever come back. But even if he won't come back, at least he served his own purpose as to why he is a good villain, even of other people think he is wasted. Hopefully he will come back in a flashback some time, so we can finally understand what his purpose is. ^^

And that is why I think Sombra is a great villain in my eyes. Remember these are only my opinions and you can still keep your old opinions as well. ^^ I hope you liked this journal and I think you all are awesome!! See you all. :D
